Shrine of Christ the King exterior

I am sad to report that when I turned on the TV this morning to the news at 4:45am. There was a report that a fire broke out in Chicago’s Shrine of Christ the King. The headquarters of the Institute of Christ the King.

Please pray for the firefighters and for the Institute.

This is the only thing I could find online as of now from the internet….

“An extra-alarm fire broke out in an 80-year-old church in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side Wednesday morning.

There were no reports of injuries at the Shrine of Christ the King Church at 64th Street and Woodlawn Avenue, according to fire officials.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. and was raised to a 3-11 alarm.

The church, formerly known as St. Gelasius, was built by the Calced Carmelite Order, which established a shrine to St. Thérèse of Lisieux, according to the church’s website.”

Last September 12, 2015, the 25th anniversary fundraising dinner of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest was held at the Father Kozina Hall of St. Margaret Mary’s (Oakland, CA). It also marked the conclusion of the apostolate’s 10th anniversary celebration of it’s arrival in the Diocese of Oakland under the invitation of then Bishop (now Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit) Allen H. Vigneron. There was a festive entertainment, an abundance of good food plus great company of kids and adults, young and old! Two kinds of fundraising auctions took place — a silent one (with some items brought by Canon Meney in the Institute’s Motherhouse in Gricigliano, Italy while the rest were donations) and the not-so-silent one where Canon Meney and Abbe Kevin took turns in running (literally!) around and collecting $5 from anyone who wanted to bid for a crucifix carved by Abbe Kevin. Afterwards, the September birthday celebrants (Canon Meney, Canon Ueda and Abbe Kevin) blew out their birthday candles together as the people sang happy birthday. Here are some of the photos from the photo gallery.

Happy 25th Anniversary!

As announced earlier, Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form (Traditional Latin Mass) was celebrated at the National Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi by the Rev. Canon Olivier Meney of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest (ICKSP) to start the Archbishop Cordileone Support Day last May 16, 2015. After mass, priests, religious, lay faithful and their families assembled at the Sue Bierman Park in San Francisco for a picnic-style gathering to give their public moral support for Archbishop Cordileone. Groups from different parishes in the Archdiocese of San Francisco, as well as dioceses near and far, were seen all over as some of them carried banners and posters identifying their parish.
